Unclaimed Funds - Wisconsin State Statute 59.66

Unclaimed Funds are funds held by the Treasurer's Office for an owner or recipient who is entitled to the money, but who has failed to claim ownership of it.  Unclaimed funds may arise for a variety of circumstances.  For example, delivery of a payment may not be possible because of an incorrect or incomplete address information for the recipient.  Oconto County, as custodians of these funds, has established policies and procedures for holding, safeguarding and accounting for these funds.  Some examples of such funds include: 

  • Program/Service payments
  • Jury Duty payments
  • Bail Money
  • Overpayments
  • Municipal payments

How to make a claim - 

  1. Complete the Claim Form.  Forms are also available at the Oconto County Treasurer's Office, 301 Washington Street, Oconto, WI 54153 during regular office hours (Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:00PM).  
  2. Provide photo identification, such as driver's license, passport, state ID card, etc. 
  3. Claims of $100.00 or more require notarized signature.  A notary will be available at no charge at the Oconto County Clerk's office; the County Notary will require a photo ID with your residential address and signature. 
  4. Verified claims will be paid by check and mailed to your current address within 4 to 6 weeks.
